Objective:
ProStrip was engaged to sandblast 1,900 m² of concrete in front of Luna Park and the Palais Theatre in St Kilda, Melbourne. The goal was to achieve a medium exposure of aggregate while maintaining a smooth, even surface across the entire area.
Challenges:
- Proximity to the Public: The site’s high foot traffic demanded strict safety and containment measures to protect pedestrians and nearby businesses.
- Dust and Debris Control: Ensuring minimal dust and debris escape to maintain a clean and safe environment for the surrounding area.
Solution:
- Safety Measures: ProStrip implemented robust safety protocols, including the use of shade cloth containment around temporary fencing to isolate the worksite and protect the public.
- Advanced Wet Blasting System: A wet blasting system was used to suppress dust effectively, achieving near dust-free results while delivering the desired concrete finish.
- Precision Sandblasting Techniques: Specialised sandblasting techniques ensured consistent aggregate exposure across the entire surface, meeting both aesthetic and structural requirements.
Outcome:
ProStrip successfully completed the concrete blasting to a high standard, delivering uniform aggregate exposure while preserving the surface's flatness. The project was completed with minimal disruption to the operations of Luna Park and the Palais Theatre, earning praise from the local council for its efficient execution and outstanding results.
